Cox 8240HDC not able to utilize eSata
Does anyone know how to utilize the eSata port on the Cox 8240HDC with an external hard drive expander? I have two boxes and one box has worked since the external hard drive was connected when the software was upgraded. My other box was not utilizing the eSata port and will not recognize. Please any advice would help.

RE: Cox 8240HDC not able to utilize eSata
The 8240HDC will no longer Format an eSATA External HDD since Cox updated to the following, If an Ext HDD was already connected and formatted prior to Passport it should still work, But no New Formats can be performed.
8240HDC is Running:
• Version: Passport Echo 3.1.085 - Sep 13 2010
• OS Version: PowerTV 6.20.75.103sp - Jun 2 2010

The 8300HD should still accept and Format correctly.
The 8300HD is Running:
• Version: Passport Echo 3.1.085 - Sep 13 2010
• OS Version: PowerTV 6.14.98.1sp - May 22 2009

The Version of Passport is the same but the OS Version PowerTV is different.
Cox is supposedly aware of this and working on a solution, supposedly there is a firmware update from Cisco that fixes this, but Cox has been slow to respond to the issue. I encourage you to complain loudly and often until it gets fixed, as I feel this is unacceptable.

RE: Cox 8240HDC not able to utilize eSata
I was very surprised to get a positive response from Cox SD on Facebook regarding a future update to fix this issue, I'm still not holding my breath though. I am just glad they are still actually acknowledging they have an issue.

Gentleman, thank you for your replies. Cox does plan on performing a firmware upgrade to correct this SATA port issue with the 8240's, absolutely. We are working closely with our software vendor on this issue. With regard to our 8300 HD DVR set-top receivers, these are fantastic receivers and Cisco still fully supports them. In fact, they have used this model of receiver in their development of their Multi-Room DVR product. I have an 8300 in my home and I love it. Smile

I am very sorry this has caused you both so much frustration. Should you decide to switch out your receivers, please contact us directly by email at Coxsandiego.help@cox.com. Otherwise, please know that a fix is in the works and will be implemented as soon as possible. We want our customers to be happy! Smile ~ Diana, Social Media Team

We had a member of the Cox "Social Media Team" log in to this forum a couple of times. He hasn't logged in since mid-February. Sad

It's also a she, as Cox uses more than one person to that account.

Have "they" mentioned why they participate so rarely? [No posts since 2-15.] ??

RE: Cox 8240HDC not able to utilize eSata
Update: Both Cox Las Vegas and Cox Arizona have a firmware update available (for customer testing) for the 8240HDC that fixes the eSATA Expansion formatting issue.
I was asked to test it, but Cox has not yet pushed the update to my DVR.

Changes Noted in the Software/Firmware Update:

ResApp Version changed: 3.1.085 >>> 3.1.091
OS Version changed: PowerTV 6.20.75.103sp >>> 6.20.75.106sp
HAL Driver changed: 1.3.62.1 >>> 1.3.65.1
PHAL3 Driver changed: 1.3.62.1 >>> 1.3.65.1
PowerKEY LIB changed: 3.9.7.45 >>> 3.9.7.46

EDIT: I now have the updated Software/Firmware and it did fix the issue:
