ATSC 3.0 in San Diego

New Member
Last April at the NAB convention in Las Vegas it was announced 40 U.S. television markets would see ATSC 3.0 stations launched by the end of 2020. I see this has been repeated this week at CES. San Diego is listed in the "second wave" of markets in 2020.

I have not found any details of what is planned for ATSC 3.0 in San Diego. I don't expect much. Maybe using one of the lower power stations for ATSC 3.0. Just guessing here. Being that KGTV is presently simulcasting on KZSD-LD (channel 20), maybe they will convert that to ATSC 3.0. Does anyone have any info about plans for ATSC 3.0 in San Diego.

I noticed on the Rabbit Ears web site (I think) that there is supposed to be a low powered channel 6 station on Mt. San Miguel broadcasting ATSC 3.0. There appears to be signal there, but nothing that can be decoded as ATSC or ATSC 3.0.

Channel 11 (KTTV) started broadcasting in ATSC 3.0 around Dec 10, 2021. They have 3 subchannels (KTTV-NX, KTLA-HD, and KCOP-NX). I have no equipment that can properly watch them (The HDHomeRun applications don't work (android) or require a paid HEVC codec from Microsoft (Windows), VLC on linux plays the video, but no sound, kodi on linux plays the video but no sound sometimes, and just crashes others). Early days.
