Big 10 Network wasting bandwidth?

TWC shut down the extra channels of The Big 10 network, last year at least, when football wasn't on. This year, they've kept them up, and all they show are duplicates of what's on the main channel.

Isn't that a serious waste of bandwidth, whether or not they're SDV channels? TWC could make better use of such. :dodgy:

Not necessarily a waste of bandwidth. TWC could merely have what appears on the main channel also appear on the extra channels through simple channel mapping. Transmit it once, but have it mapped to all of the Big 10 channels, not to just the main channel. The DVR diagnostic pages should be able to sort this out.

Last year, TWC removed the extra Big10 HD channels, but for some reason they are still up.

Obviuously TWC feels its worth the bandwidth or their carriage contract specifies that they carry the subchannels. DirecTV did the same thing the first year (maybe even the first two years - it's been a while), now the subchannels are permanent. There are other Big Ten sports during the year.

As I said, more likely just channel mapping. Select channel X on your remote, it displays channel X on the front panel and tunes channel X. Select channel Y on your remote, it displays channel Y on the front panel, but tunes channel X. Select channel Z on your remote, it displays channel Z on the front panel, but tunes channel X. Etc. No extra bandwidth required. It happens quite often. If I select 1005 on my remote, the front panel displays 1005, but the STB tunes 705. Same with 1006/706, 1007/707, etc. Simple channel mapping.
