Amazon hosted a press-only online event today, where it showed off its slate of upcoming devices throughout its wide range of product lines. Among the new Echo speakers, Ring devices, and smart home tech, the company also took the wraps off new entries in its Fire TV line, including the rumored...
Looks like Amazon is going to be releasing a new slate of Fire TV devices. What is surprising is that there are no plans to update the 4K models (for now).
It appears that the Fire Stick Lite is getting released and is a basic fire stick for only $29.99 and does not have tv control buttons but does have Alexa. I could see this being a very popular stocking stuffer or holiday gift. Supports 1080p HD resolution and even has HDR, HDR 10, HDR 10+, HLG and Dolby Audio pass through.
2nd streaming device is the Fire Stick which includes the same features as the $29.99 model, but has a 50 percent faster SoC (same as Fire Stick lite) than the previous non 4K Fire Stick and support for Dolby Atmos. It also gains an enhanced remote with Alexa and TV controls like the 4K model.
These new sticks will be getting a revised Fire TV interface that includes user profiles and a cleaner look. Not sure if this is being back ported to the older models as well as the 4K models. User profiles is something that was added to Prime Video and it is nice to see a streaming UI have it across the board.
New Eero routers have also launched with WiFi 6 for faster in home wifi using Mesh technology. Also not to be missed is the new Luna game streaming service that supports most major platforms (but not iOS) and is intended to compete with Stadia and xCloud.
